What is it?

Read the poem and guess what object is being personified.

For as long as I can remember,

I’ve always been moving,

never staying.

Always going going going,

forwards never back.

But he is behind me.

And I have no way to get to him.

Others have followed suit,

all dressed in white,

but behind me he stays.

He’s safe from those like us,

but we are by far the weakest threat there is.

Because all we move is forward.

Sometimes a hop,

a skip,

and a jump,

but always forwards.

Never back.

When our adversaries come marching in.

When our wall is broken through.

He will be vulnerable.

From those ahead,

those to the side.

From those in sight,

and those out of it.

From every angle they will come for him.

Every angle except behind him.

But they will be behind me.

And I will have no way to get to him.

No way to see him.

Warn him.

My only hope is to march,

and march,

and march.

March until I pass through all of my adversaries.

March until I get to the end of the line.

March until I hit a point where I can finally turn around.

When I turn around,

it will once again be the same story

Always moving,

never staying.

Always going going going,

forwards never back.

But this time it won’t be away.

It will be to.

To him.

I will march to him.

For him.

I will hop, skip, and jump whenever I can.

To get to him.

For him.

I will take on the dark kingdom.

To get to him.

For him.

I will get to him…

Or I will die trying.
