There was rain tapping on the window. Wrestling leaves were clinging onto the trees. There was a baseball game in the sky with fireworks and home runs. The light was playing hide and go seek with us too. The flames on the candles were dancing, every pop of fire the beginning of a new show. My book displayed a wonderful world full of monsters, masks, and magic, yet it was to match for the perfect scene I was lucky to be a part of. The rain’s taps turned into pounds and the fun game turned into a fight between the strongest of foes, but inside was still calm. No yelling or working, no fighting or cleaning, no loud music or crashing toys. There was just the sound of comfort and home. Everyone was quietly doing their own thing, the dog was resting, and I was – for the first time in a while – enjoying some well deserved quiet time in a place I feel I could finally call home.
